Finished in the rare and elegant Dark Violet Metallic (Viola Metallic), it represents not only a defining era in performance engineering, but also benefits from a remarkable provenance. Originally delivered in Germany, the car found its way into the hands of Salman Rushdie during a period when he was still working in advertising, prior to his international literary breakthrough. In the early 1980s, his life moved between cities, ideas and ambition—an environment in which a 930 Turbo felt entirely at home. The car accompanied him to London, becoming part of that formative chapter. At the time, the 930 Turbo stood at the forefront of automotive performance. It remains closely associated with the icons of its era, such as the Ferrari Testarossa and the Lamborghini Countach. Its characteristic driving experience—marked by pronounced turbo lag followed by an explosive surge of power—demands both attention and respect. This particular example was later acquired by Laurens Schaap via Coolclassic in Naarden and is currently in the hands of Bernard Dhont, whose background includes endurance rallying such as Paris-Dakar. The car has consistently been maintained with a clear understanding of its character and significance. Condition and specifications The car retains its original matching numbers 3.3-litre flat-six engine, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The engine has been fully rebuilt in the past, contributing to its current mechanical condition. A comprehensive file accompanies the car, including an extensive collection of invoices documenting maintenance and works carried out over the years, together with a fully completed original service booklet and a Car-Pass from 1998 to the present. The mileage of 93,541 km is documented and consistent. The available invoices clearly demonstrate that the car has not only been maintained, but also technically refined with a focus on reliability and driving quality. Exterior and interior The Viola Metallic paintwork has been resprayed in the past and remains in very good condition, protected by a ceramic coating. The car sits on correct Fuchs wheels with tyres in the proper specifications. A factory sunroof enhances the driving experience. The interior is finished in cream leather, providing an elegant contrast to the exterior. Equipment includes air conditioning, electric windows and a main power cut-off switch, all contributing to usability without compromising the car’s classic character. Maintenance history Maintenance details are recorded in the original, fully completed service booklet and further supported by an extensive file of invoices. In addition, a Car-Pass from 1998 to the present confirms the mileage. Throughout its life, the car has been consistently and knowledgeably maintained, with the available documentation providing a clear and transparent overview of its upkeep. On 06/11/2021, a major service was carried out, including replacement of suspension bushings. In October 2025, the car underwent a series of substantial technical upgrades at Schmidt in Oss. These included the installation of a new gear lever, a Tractive suspension setup, replacement of front axle bushings, and the fitment of a Momo steering wheel. In addition, the power steering system and steering rods were fully renewed, the brake calipers overhauled, and both brake lines and seat belts replaced. These works represent an investment of €15,683.52 (see invoice). In November 2025, further technical optimisation was carried out, again by Schmidt in Oss, including work on the limited-slip differential, clutch assembly, a major service, driveshaft and gearbox. This phase represents an additional investment of €17,591.83 (see invoice). Together, these recent works underline a clear focus on technical perfection and ensure that the car is not only historically interesting, but also mechanically highly sorted. By the end of 2025, the car had been brought fully up to standard and today presents in technically excellent condition. Technical update The car is equipped with a semi-active electronic suspension system, including Active Controlled Electronics (ACE), a multi-axis G-sensor and adjustable damping with roll and pitch control. Five driving modes can be selected via a discreetly integrated touchscreen in the centre console. This upgrade has been carried out with respect for the car’s original character, creating an interesting bridge between classic driving experience and modern technology.
